During the final installment of DiSH-MT for the 2023/2024 school year, we'll dive into Montana's only statewide Type 1 Diabetes support network.
Tonya Fuhrmann, founder and executive director of the Montana Youth Diabetes Alliance (MYDA) began her career as a Licensed Practical Nurse before transitioning out of healthcare and moving to the Flathead Valley to begin work as a mortgage loan officer assistant. After several years, she returned to Helena and began MYDA following the American Diabetes Association's reduction in funding and support for a Montana chapter in 2019.
In just a few short years, MYDA has become a flourishing organization that continues to grow in new ways that serve children living with Type 1 and their families. Cornerstone programs of MYDA include an annual week-long overnight camp, an educational family retreat, reimbursements for out-of-pocket expenses, and more.
As MYDA continues to build programming directly for families, we hope this session will be a lively discussion as MYDA has the opportunity to help bridge the gap between what school nurses need and want from families and vice versa!
