Supporting Students with Type 1 Diabetes and their Mental Health

DiSH-MT is back for the 2023/2024 school year! We are excited to kick off our programming with Charley Jones, LCSW, and focus on the mental health and well-being of Montana students with Type 1 Diabetes. This session will cover current mental health trends in youth with T1D, discuss school-specific factors that lead to extra stress and burnout, and share ways that school nurses and other school health personnel can contribute to better outcomes and the prevention of burnout in youth with T1D.

  • One hour is awarded for each individual session
  • Successful completion includes >75% attendance of the session and the completion of the post-session survey
  • Financial disclosure statements will be made available at each program
  • Credits will be issued by way of Logan Health. Logan Health is approved as a provider of nursing continuing professional development by the Montana Nurses Association, an accredited approver with distinction by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

 

Featured Speaker: Charley Jones, LCSW

 

Charley Jones is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who graduated from Western Washington University with a Master of Arts in Environmental Education, and from the University of Washington, with a Master of Social Work, where he was awarded the prestigious Leadership in Education and Adolescent Health (LEAH) Fellowship.  


Charley has been working with youth and families professionally for 20 years in a variety of settings including wilderness therapy, education, and international cultural immersion trips as well as at Seattle Children's Hospital where he served as a Diabetes Social Worker counseling and working with youth with Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes.


Charley now divides his professional time working as a private practice Youth and Family Therapist in the Flathead Valley and as a School-Based Mental Health Therapist. Additionally, Charley is a busy parent with a 2-year-old and 4-year-old and he and his wife, Ann, enjoy the Montana outdoors, biking, hiking, cross-country skiing, sailing, and more.
